Dispensationalism was invented by John Nelson Darby, an Irish sectarian who rejected all church authority and whose group would have been excommunicated from any established church. Charles Spurgeon and virtually all of mainstream Christianity rejected it for nearly a century as dangerously novel. The principle stands: if it's new, it's not true.
