The proximity of Joyce's abandoned car to the meditation group's house is the seed of this theory. Mike and Celeste Lindbergh were heading to Spain for the semester; Mark Wadley needed a roommate to cover rent; Joyce was unhappy with Bruce and had agreed to move in. When officers first knocked at 400 Howard, it was Mark who answered. He described his connection to Joyce as arm's-length but was visibly nervous — the officer noted it explicitly in the case file. Mid-conversation, Mike Lindbergh was observed driving past the house without stopping, only returning after police left.
