Best AI coding harnesses

The harness discussion reveals how the meta-layer around models matters almost as much as model quality. DHH's workflow: Claude Code drives primary development in parallel Herder sessions, then every output gets a Codex review (which keeps finding legitimately broken things), then GitHub Copilot catches a final layer of issues at push time. He's irritated by Anthropic's petty restrictions — requiring CLAUDE.md instead of AGENTS.md, cutting off third-party subscription use — but acknowledges Claude Code's multi-agent session management is simply the best available. The Basecamp experiment is intellectually interesting: treating agents as asynchronous to-do assignees rather than real-time chat partners may be the right psychological frame, because you don't sit around waiting for a colleague to reply to a task. DHH is building the automated Omabot system to take this further — agents that process PRs on schedule and email him summaries, reducing the need for constant human-in-the-loop management.
