On the evening of July 5, 2001, the Bradley household split: Victoria and Rita were sent to spend the night with their grandmother at Robert Taylor Homes, while 10-year-old Tionda and 3-year-old Diamond stayed behind at the apartment with their mother Tracy. Two of Tracy's friends — including a neighbour known as Porgy who sometimes babysat the girls — came over to watch a Cubs game and left around 10:30 PM. Another neighbour stopped by but didn't enter past the entryway. Then Tracy left to spend the night at her boyfriend George's house, telling Tionda not to let anyone inside — leaving a 10-year-old and a 3-year-old alone all night. The apartment's phone was active throughout the night with calls going in and out, one arriving around 2 AM and another going out to George's house. Law enforcement still does not know who made those calls, and their contents remain unknown, setting the stage for the mystery of what happened in those dark overnight hours.
