Her father Arthur lived separately in Mississauga. Nicole's best friend was 7-year-old Melissa Elaszczuk from the same complex, and the two of them met at the building's pool regularly. On July 30, 1985 — a morning like any other — Nicole told her mother she was heading down to the pool. She wore a peach one-piece swimsuit, a green headband, red canvas shoes, and carried a beach blanket and purple towel under her arm. She stepped into the elevator. She made it to the lobby — someone later recognised her photo and confirmed it. After that, there was nothing. Jeanette was occupied with the daycare children and assumed Nicole was at the pool or playing outside. She didn't call police until around 3 PM — roughly four hours after Nicole left.
