- Behind the meter
- Power generation that is consumed directly by the facility that produces it, bypassing the public utility grid entirely, so grid operators and ratepayers are unaffected.
- Stranded gas
- Natural gas produced as a byproduct of oil extraction that cannot be economically transported due to insufficient pipeline capacity, often burned off (flared) or given away at no cost.
- Permian Basin
- A large sedimentary basin in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico that is the largest oil-producing region in the United States, also generating vast quantities of associated natural gas.

- HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy)
- Medical treatment involving synthetic or bioidentical hormones — typically estrogen — to relieve symptoms of menopause; recently had its FDA black box warning removed in the US.
- Black box warning
- The FDA's most serious drug label warning, boxed in black, indicating significant risks; its removal from HRT labels has reopened commercial interest in estrogen-based treatments.
- Aggregates
- Construction materials — crushed stone, gravel, and sand — used as the primary ingredient in concrete and as a base for roads and infrastructure; prized for durable pricing power.
- Vertically integrated
- A business model where a company controls multiple stages of its supply chain — in CRH's case, producing raw aggregates, processing them into asphalt, and providing paving services.
- Bolt-on acquisition
- A small or mid-sized acquisition that supplements and extends an existing business line rather than representing a major strategic pivot; CRH completed 38 such deals in one year.

- Economist Hyman Minsky's insight that prolonged economic stability breeds excessive risk-taking and debt accumulation, ultimately sowing the seeds of financial instability or crisis.
- FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee)
- The Federal Reserve body that sets US monetary policy, including interest rate decisions; chaired by the Fed chair and composed of governors and regional Fed bank presidents.
- SEP (Summary of Economic Projections)
- The Fed's quarterly publication of individual FOMC members' forecasts for key economic variables including GDP, inflation, unemployment, and the target federal funds rate ('dot plot').
- Dot plot
- The informal name for the Fed's interest rate projection chart within the SEP, showing each anonymous FOMC member's forecast for where rates will be at year-end; Warsh notably did not submit his own dot.
- PCE (Personal Consumption Expenditures)
- A measure of US consumer spending and inflation preferred by the Federal Reserve as its primary inflation indicator, available in both headline and core (ex-food and energy) forms.
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- A chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that attacks joints; one of the primary indications for AbbVie's blockbuster drugs Rinvoq and Skyrizi.
- Incumbency
- The state of currently holding an office; Dennis Lockhart used the term to refer to Kevin Warsh's early tenure as Federal Reserve chairman.
- Arcane
- Known or understood by very few; mysterious or obscure. Used by Dennis Lockhart to describe the highly specialised economic data series that Alan Greenspan could recall from memory.
