The Three Livestreams: A Rough Sketch of a Killing

At 23:50 · chapter starts 21:00

David Gutmann, a colleague at the Seattle Times who has followed the case from the beginning, helps the reporters analyze three key livestreams recorded the night of June 29, 2020. The first, shot from a park in the middle of CHOP just before 3 AM, shows a panicked livestreamer as a white Jeep drives through the soccer field and shots are heard. The second, shot from an apartment above CHOP, captures the sounds of the fatal gunshots but is obscured by a tree. In this footage, the Jeep crashes into city-placed cement barricades, backs up, and crashes again under heavy fire. And then — in what Gutmann calls a 'surreal' moment — an unidentified voice yells at the boys inside the car: 'Oh, you're not dead, huh? Want to get pistol whipped?' The boys, at this point, have been shot multiple times. The third livestream, shot by Ashley Durellis, shows the immediate aftermath: chaos, protesters trying to treat the two shot teenagers, and a crashed Jeep riddled with bullet holes.
