The KVIA Meeting: Greg Pitches Stephanie Valle
At 36:17 · chapter starts 34:50
Werchuk wants Valle to do a TV story in which she confronts Montoya on camera: why won't he get involved? Why won't he test the DNA? Werchuk himself doesn't want to appear on camera, worried about antagonizing Montoya. But Valle pushes back, saying that if Werchuk is the one raising the questions, they'd land better coming from his mouth than hers. There's also a complication: Valle reveals she is leaving KVIA in about two weeks. There's no guarantee a new anchor would pick up the story. As the meeting wraps, Werchuk suddenly pivots and asks if she could get him a direct meeting with Montoya. Valle pauses, then says — to everyone's shock — that she probably could. She's been working in this town a long time. She'll try. Werchuk practically levitates. 'We're pulling at any string we can,' he says. 'We'll change our flights. Whatever.'
When reporter Maurice Chammas first meets lawyer Greg Werchuk in mid-December 2024, there are exactly 87 days left before David Wood's scheduled execution.
