The Viking Age lasted less than 3 centuries, yet reshaped medieval Europe and the trajectory of Western civilization.
Jungle Keepers has protected 130,000 acres of Amazon rainforest and is working toward protecting 200,000 more.
Durov has completely abstained from alcohol, tobacco, coffee, pills, and illegal drugs for over 20 years, crediting this discipline for his success and health.
The entire French campaign, from the initial attack to the occupation of most of France, lasted only six weeks — aided significantly by the non-stop meth-fueled advance.
Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory with the Axiom of Choice (ZFC) consists of roughly 10 axioms and serves as the standard foundation for virtually all of modern mathematics.
Based on NASA estimates, producing the ~25 grams of antimatter needed for a 1-megaton equivalent would cost approximately $1.5 quadrillion, compared to $10–50 million for a conventional nuclear warhead.
Leif Erikson landed in North America around the year 1000, approximately 500 years before Columbus, settling briefly at a site now identified as L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland.
The global cocaine user base is approximately 25 million people, fueling the multi-billion-dollar drug industry now encroaching on Amazon conservation areas.
Lars Brownworth's 12 Byzantine Rulers podcast launched in June 2005, making it one of the first — if not the first — history podcasts ever produced.
The ancient ironwood (shiwawako) trees in the Las Piedras region can exceed 1,200 years of age, making them living witnesses to events predating the Renaissance.
Pavel Durov owns 100% of Telegram with no external shareholders, which he credits as the reason he can refuse government demands and maintain privacy principles without compromise.
Pavel Durov's brother Nikolai won 3 gold medals at the International Mathematics Olympiad and 2 ICPC world programming championship titles, and holds 2 PhDs in mathematics.
Physics advances by collapsing apparently unrelated phenomena into a single unified framework. Newton showed celestial and terrestrial gravity were the same; Maxwell merged electricity and magnetism; Einstein fused space and time. Each unification was unthinkable before it happened.
The LHC produces a billion collisions per second, but 999,999,000 of them are completely boring. A cascade of fast electronics and computer farms filters that firehose down to 1,000 events per second worth storing. Graduate students then sift those for the handful that might be a Nobel Prize.
The Higgs field fills all of space and interacts with some particles but not others. Particles that 'feel' it gain mass; photons are blind to it and stay massless. At 10^-12 seconds after the Big Bang the field switched on, splitting the unified electroweak force into electromagnetism and the weak force.
On July 4th 2012 CERN announced a particle consistent with the Higgs boson — the last unvalidated piece of the Standard Model. Fermilab was racing to find it first but ran out of time. Lincoln was simultaneously rooting for both labs, and the discovery took 14 more years of follow-up to fully confirm.
String theory has been developed since the 1970s and has yet to make a single testable prediction. The energy scale it describes is 10^15 times beyond what any accelerator can reach. Lincoln thinks it's almost certainly wrong — not because the people are stupid, but because history guarantees something completely unexpected lies between here and there.
We need to probe energy scales a quadrillion times higher than our best accelerators to test Grand Unification. That's like a hominid in Kenya trying to predict Antarctica, sperm whales, and the Alps. Lincoln's prediction: a theory of everything is at minimum 500 years away.
The Big Bang should have created equal matter and antimatter. They should have annihilated completely, leaving only photons. Instead, there was a one-in-a-billion surplus of matter. Everything — every galaxy, star, planet, and person — is that tiny surplus. Nobody knows why.
At Fermilab's peak, producing one antiproton required smashing 100,000 protons into a target. The annual yield was about one nanogram. At that rate, producing a single gram of antimatter would take a billion years. NASA estimates the cost of 25 grams — equivalent to a 1-megaton explosion — at $1.5 quadrillion.
When you use quantum field theory to calculate how much energy should exist in empty space, you get a number 10^120 times larger than the dark energy value measured from the universe's expansion. This isn't a minor discrepancy — it's the most catastrophic numerical failure in the history of science.
Dark matter is five times more abundant than ordinary matter and is supported by three independent lines of astronomical evidence: galaxy rotation curves, galaxy cluster dynamics, and gravitational lensing. The Bullet Cluster and Dragonfly galaxies strongly suggest it's real. But after 30 years of searching, physicists have found no direct particle evidence.
Empty space is not empty. Quantum field theory says all fields are perpetually vibrating, producing virtual particle-antiparticle pairs that appear and vanish too quickly to see. The Casimir effect — two metal plates pushed together by nothing — proves this is real. QED then predicts the electron's magnetic moment to 10 significant figures.
Einstein's greatest insight was that acceleration and gravity are indistinguishable. That equivalence led him to reinterpret gravity not as a force but as the curvature of spacetime itself — a move so conceptually radical that it is still the dominant framework for cosmology today.
The speed of light isn't an arbitrary speed limit — it's the speed at which anything travels through spacetime. Particle physicists have directly confirmed it: particles decaying into photons while moving at 95% the speed of light still produce photons that travel at exactly c, not 1.95c. Einstein's second postulate is experimentally rock-solid.
Lincoln grew up poor, with parents who couldn't help him past 6th-grade math. Science fiction, Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, and a philosophical hunger for the universe's biggest questions drove him to become a particle physicist. He now writes books hoping to reach other kids growing up without academic mentors.
E=mc² isn't just a formula about bombs — it means energy and mass are directly interchangeable. Smash two particles together with enough energy and the collision can literally create new particles from pure movement energy. Every collider in history is a machine for converting motion into matter.
